Recommended Vaccines
In addition to the required vaccinations, the Student Health Services strongly recommends that all students obtain the following:
- Hepatitis B vaccine series is recommended for all students. Students enrolled in academic courses which result in an increased risk of contracting Hepatitis-B will be immunized against this disease prior to potential exposure. For more information, visit http://www.policy.ilstu.edu/policydocs/hepatitisb.htm.
- Bacterial Meningitis vaccine--The Student Health Service wants students to be aware of meningococcal meningitis and know that a vaccine is available for students. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that college freshmen living in residence halls receive a meningococcal vaccine (Menactra).
- Mumps -- Due to the recent mumps outbreaks in several states the Center for Disease Control and the American College Health Association have issued recommendations that all students should have documentation that they have received two doses of MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella) vaccine or other evidence of immunity to mumps.
- HPV-- The CDC recommends the HPV vaccine for all girls and women between 9 and 26 years of age. HPV can cause cervical cancer in women and other types of anogenital cancers and genital warts in both men and women.
All these vaccines are available at Student Health Services. Students may call (309) 438-2778 to schedule an appointment.
