How do I cancel Insurance?

Insurance cancellation requests are due prior to the 15th calendar day fall and spring, and the 8th calendar day summer. With the request, you need to provide evidence of other coverage. The easiest method is to show a copy of your other insurance card.

When do I get my Insurance refund?

Cancellation requests result in the insurance fee being removed from your tuition bill. If you have paid the bill in full at the time of cancellation, and if you do not owe any money to ISU, a check will be issued to your local address by the Student Accounts Office. For more on this topic...

Should I keep or cancel Student Insurance?

Student Insurance coordinates with your family coverage so that you would expect 100% compensation for medical expenses. This Plan picks up your other deductibles, co-insurance, and amounts above usual and customary or otherwise unpaid by your other insurance. If your other coverage is a managed care plan, you may have restrictions or diminished coverage for out-of-area non-emergencies. If I cancel the Student Insurance, what do I do when I incur charges in the Student Health Service?

When charges are incurred in the Student Health Service, ask for an itemized bill suitable for insurance from the Student Health Service Business Office. Can dependents be covered?

No dependent coverage is available. International students are referred to the Office for International Studies for material on policies which can be purchased for the coverage of dependents. U.S. students are referred to other agencies which offer dependent medical coverage plans.

Can I keep this insurance if I have less than 9 hours?

I have to leave school. What are my insurance options?

Students whose withdrawal dates are after the 15th calendar day of the term (8th day for summer session) will retain Student Insurance for the remainder of the term. Students leaving the plan are eligible to convert from group benefits to an individual policy. Please contact Student Insurance ( (309) 438-2515) for terms and conditions.

Are there any vision benefits?

Illnesses and injuries of the eye are covered. Also, certain providers offer insured students discounts off of vision exam, contacts, and glasses. Providers in this community are Pearle Vision and Sears Optical, both at Eastland Mall, Bard Optical, Lenscrafters and All About Eyes. Providers are also available in other areas. Are physicals required, and are they covered?

A physical is not required. Insurance benefits cover illness and injury. There is no coverage for routine physicals nor for employment physicals.

Yes, insurance provides world-wide coverage.

Is maternity covered?

Pregnancy is a covered condition. For benefits to be payable, you must be insured at conception and on all dates of service.

 
Benefit Summary:
 
  • $50 per year deductible
  • 80% of eligible expenses to $5,000
  • 100% of eligible expenses over $5,000 to $1,000,000 lifetime maximum.
 
 

Your out-of-pocket expenses are limited to no more than $1,000 for covered charges, per policy year. Maternity charges which are not eligible include routine sonograms, vitamins, and any prescriptions. To read about the optional prescription discount program, please go to the Chickering Group web site. Dependents are not covered. Please see the Student Insurance brochure for hospital nursery coverage.

When eligibility for the Student Group Plan ends, a continuation option is available. Contact Student Insurance benefit counselors who will be happy to help you (309) 438-2515.
