Sexual Assault

Ecstasy

What is it: Ecstasy is Methylenendioxymethamphetamine (MDMA). It is a very toxic stimulant and hallucinogenic drug. It has no accepted medical uses in the United States and it is illegal to manufacture, possess, or sell.

What are the effects: Ecstasy increases pulse rate, blood pressure, and body temperature. It can cause muscle spasms and teeth grinding. It suppresses the need to eat, drink, or sleep and can lead to extreme dehydration and heart or kidney failure. The most dangerous, and potentially life-threatening effect is hyperthermia (excessive body heat). Death can result from heat stroke or heart failure. It may also cause neurological damage. It may reduce your ability to sense danger and leave you unable to protect yourself from a rapist.

What does it look like: Ecstasy comes in a small tablet or capsule form, or as a powder. Occasionally it is found in liquid form.
