How to Help a Friend

Because of the high incidence of rape, it is likely that you will know someone who is a survivor of sexual assault. Women often turn to men for support when they have been assaulted.

Female friends are sometimes more blaming, viewing the survivor as being responsible for what happened. Therefore, women will often talk with male friends about what has happened. They are not looking for you to “retaliate” against the perpetrator, or take any action on their behalf, they just need you to listen to their concerns.
